Coliant Featured in MVCA 2011 Annual Report

Michigan's venture capital community continues to grow.

"There is no doubt that Michigan's needle is moving in the right direction. Still, we won't turn Michigan around overnight. Much work remains to be done so that Michigan's venture capital community can thrive and, in turn, spark the entrepreneurial flame that built this great state."

- Rick Snyder, Governor of Michigan

Warren, Michigan — Oct 15, 2012 — Coliant Corporation was featured in the recently published Michigan Venture Capitalist Association's 2011 annual report. The report tallies the previous years relevant data regarding Michigan's investment industry, including venture capital investments, angel network investments and sector and stage analyses. It also highlights venture capital activity in Michigan compared to other regions and the U.S.

"There is no doubt that Michigan's needle is moving in the right direction", said Michigan Governor Rick Snyder. "Still, we won't turn Michigan around overnight. Much work remains to be done so that Michigan's venture capital community can thrive and, in turn, spark the entrepreneurial flame that built this great state."

States are broken into five tiers, ranked by the amount of money made through investments. With 30 capital investments for $82 million, Michigan is in tier five. In comparison, two states with a similar number of millionaires like Massachusetts (tier one) closed 383 investment deals for $3 billion and Pennsylvania (tier two) closed 145 investment deals for $520 million. However, more comprehensive data collected by the MVCA reveals the final 2011 Michigan venture investment activity could be as high as $191 million in 38 companies which would place the state in Tier 4.

One of the most significant signs of the strength and vibrancy of Michigan's venture community is the fact that while the national venture community has seen significant shrinkage in terms of number of firms, capital managed and number of investment professionals over the past several years, Michigan's venture community continues to grow.
